A sad day for the climbing world Autor bloga: PaddlinPhool
Steamboat Springs, Colorado native Art Higbee died of a heart attack last weekend while working in Hawaii. Art's a rock climbing legend and will live on forever as a number of the most difficult climbs in the country are named after him. He was the first person to free climb Half Dome in 1977 with Jim Ericson after many attempts and by circuitous variations, The best free climbing produced by far was the Zig-Zags, three pitches of high quality 5.11 and 5.11+ laybacks and jam cracks. He also worked on the Alaska Pipeline and form many years as a youth ski coach, (having spent two years with him as my own coach I have personal expewrience here). Hands down one of the smartest guys you'd ever meet and he loved to argue about anything and everything.
RIP Art.
